White-Spotted Doradid

White-Spotted Doradid

Also called the Spotted Talking Catfish, Spotted Raphael Catfish and the Whitebarred Catfish, the White-Spotted Doradid is a species of thorny catfish. This group of catfishes can be identified by a nuchal shield in front of the dorsal fin in addition to a series of thorny lumps along the lateral line. Another unique characteristic of this group of fishes is their ability to produce sound by vibrating their swim bladder. White-Spotted Doradids have dark bodies ornamented with light colored markings which may vary in color and placement from one specimen to another.
