Swallow-Tailed Glass Catfish

Swallow-Tailed Glass Catfish

More commonly known as the Three Striped African Glass Catfish, the Swallow-Tailed Glass Catfish is named for the unique shape of its tail. The lobes of the caudal fin are rounded and, unlike its relative Pareutropius debauwi, the caudal fin may also be ornamented with black stripes or spots. These Catfish have silver bodies decorated with three lateral stripes, the lowest of which is broken near the pelvic fin. The Swallow-Tailed Glass Catfish is native to Nigeria, Mali, Niger, Benin and Guinea where it can be found in rivers and floodplains.
