A member of the family Cyprinidae, the Elegant Rasbora is native to Singapore and Malaysia as well as the Greater Sunda Islands of Borneo and Sumatra. These fish are naturally found in both swiftly-flowing streams and slow-moving blackwater swamps. Elegant Rasboras are not common in the aquarium hobby and can be difficult to find in stores. They can be distinguished from other Rasboras by the two spot-like markings on their flanks which replace the dark stripe most Rasboras exhibit along the lateral line.
