Glass Rasbora

The Glass Rasbora can be found throughout Thailand and also in parts of Cambodia and Vietnam. These fish vary in coloration according to their locality, but most exhibit a golden yellow body with a dark green or brown lateral stripe as well as a spot on the caudal peduncle. This pattern is what gives this species the nickname Exclamation Point Rasbora. These fish are also known by the nicknames Least Rasbora and Sparrow Rasbora.

Tank Set-Up

These fish are shy, shoaling fish that are best kept in groups of six or more. Glass Rasboras can be kept with other peaceful species but are not recommended for community tanks due to their timidity and small size. These fish prefer densely-planted tanks with plenty of open swimming space, ornamented with driftwood roots or branches. Because these fish can be sensitive to changes in water chemistry, they thrive best when added to already-established tanks.

Feeding

Glass Rasboras are micropredators in the wild, feeding on small worms, crustaceans and insects as well as other forms of zooplankton. These fish should be offered a staple diet of high-quality flake or pellet food which can be supplemented with small live and frozen foods such as bloodworms, Daphnia and Artemia. Feed a diet consisting of a variety of foods on a regular basis to promote the best health and coloration.

Breeding

These fish are egg-scatterers and can be conditioned for breeding in groups consisting of two or three breeding pairs. The water in the breeding tank should be kept at a pH between 5.0 and 6.5 and maintained at a temperature between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Glass Rasboras exhibit no parental care and should be removed from the breeding tank or they may eat their own eggs and young.
